It’s been a couple of days since I stumbled across the finish line on a real ultra trail marathon. You know, the kind of ultra race where you reach beyond what you thought you were capable of. This was the Trans Gran Canaria 128K (TGC), across a beautiful island.
I don’t feel any post-race blues, I feel great and I am still marveling at my achievements: going further, and higher, and for a longer time than ever before. That’s pretty ultra to me. And I didn’t even get a single blister on my feet! (Hmm, that would not be so ultra?). In fact, for the whole 29 hours Fortsätt läsa ”RR Trans Gran Canaria – TGC 128K 2019”
Running interval sessions is a necessity for me. I do Fartleks at times, but for the more complicated interval workouts, I make use of my Garmin Fenix 3 sports watch. It has a Workout feature where all the logic steps of running, recovering and resting in various distances and time can be easily setup. I still have to do all the hard work, but the Fenix does help me get it executed.
On the Garmin Connect site it’s quite easy to build the workout, but then I found a few hiccups in transmitting to the watch itself. As it turns out, I had added Fortsätt läsa ”Workouts for Garmin Fenix 3”
Last year I made my first attempt to run over the Sierra de Irta mountains. I ran solo and had to DNF returning back due to a virus infection, making it my most miserable run in my life. A year later, I got the opportunity to complete my adventure, this time together with my running mate.
Even though it is not (still) an official race, I felt the same kind of nerve as last year. It would be furthest distance I’ve done in one shot, and with traveling involved, you’d need to be in good health and form at that exact time. The memory of the two hour serum infuse on a hospital stretcher was still fresh in mind, though.
Since I’ve taking up running I have discovered that I do well with having goals with my exercises, in particular for running. Back when I started out from scratch it was about consistency; staying true to doing at least three runs a week.
Swiftly this evolved into chasing times on distances. One of my proudest moments was breaking the 10K on sub-60. Not bad for an overweight bastard with more than a decade of decandence in the bag!
By then I considered myself more of a runner and less of a jogger, which meant I was ready for a race. So I wanted to finish a race – my first was a 10K, and I was 43 seconds shy from sub-50! Guess what that motivated? Yes, sub-50 on 10K…
Back in racing, I extended the distances. At first I thought Fortsätt läsa ”My running goals 2015”
